Alexandria—
The BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) will host Siemens’ “Discovery Box” workshops for children 5–13, on Monday 21 July 2008, from 12:00–3:00 p.m. at the BA Conference Center Multi Purpose hall. Children’s participation in the workshops is free of charge.
The “Discovery Box” is developed by Siemens Generation 21 as an experiment kit for pupils of the age group 5–13. It includes experiment sets consisting of two large wooden boxes full of components to conduct experiments on “Energy & Electricity” and “Environment & Health”. Trained volunteers from the German University of Cairo (GUC) and Faculty of Computer Science at Cairo University will demonstrate these hands-on experiments to PSC participants; serving two purposes, the experiments help awaken the interest of children in science and technology, and support animators by equipping them with material and simple interesting experiments in these areas. With the experiment kit, children are guaranteed to have fun exploring a variety of everyday phenomena.
Siemens as a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors and the GUC as a technology and research based University, aim to help nurture tomorrow's scientists and engineers and to encourage the next generation to investigate the world around them.
