The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading session on Wednesday, 26 November 2008. Participants will read Orabi, Leader of Peasants by Abdel Rahman El Sharkawy.
Orabi, Leader of Peasants deals with a significant time in the history of modern Egypt, a time that witnessed conflicts between national Egyptian factions, on one hand, and the Khedive and foreign forces on the other. The conflict was fueled when Orabi, supported with the people, moved to Abdeen Palace, so as to voice the demands of the Egyptian people to Kedive Tawfiq, who could not but agree. This success, however, was short-lived, since England`s military intervention led to the defeat of Orabi and his followers as Egypt came under British occupation. With a poetic and theatrical style, Abdel Rahman El Sharkawy narrates these real historic events in the three chapters of his play.
The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
