The Father of the Internet at the BA

Alexandria— Professor Vinton Cerf, “the Father of the Internet” and Google’s Vice President, will be visiting the BA on 5 and 6 January 2009 to participate in the inauguration of the Science SuperCourse Project, organized by the BA Center of Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Pittsburgh, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director of CSSP, said that a number of world eminent scientist will also attend the event including Dr. Hisham El-Sherif, a leading figure in Information and Communication Technology in Egypt; Gilbert Omenn, Professor of Medicine, Genetics, and Public Health, University of Michigan; and Ronald Laporte, Professor of Epidemiology, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh, among others.
He added that the project aims at building an internet archive of PowerPoint lectures in four main scientific disciplines, namely: Medicine (public health), Agriculture, Engineering and Environment.
Dr. El-Faham pointed out that the project is targeting a total of 100,000 Golden PowerPoint lectures within a year and one million in three years. The aim of this course is to provide the most updated and accessible online lectures for free to professors, researchers and students, especially in developing countries, in order to enhance their skills and abilities.
It is worth mentioning that Prof. Vinton Cerf is Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. He is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for the Company. Thus, was awarded the Highest Order of Merit in the USA.
