Serageldin Meets with the Jury Committee Members of the Chirac Foundation

Alexandria— Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, meets on Monday, 15 July 2009, in Paris, France, with the Jury Committee members of the Chirac Foundation to select a winner for the Chirac Foundation Prize for the Prevention of Conflicts.

The Selection will be made after meeting with a committee of experts who will propose a list of individuals or institutions that have taken exemplary and urgent action towards prevention of clash in areas of potential conflict. As a member in the Jury, Serageldin will give a 15 minute speech on the prevention of conflict.

The Jury is composed of personalities who have worked for peace and dialogue, including: Former President Jacques Chirac, President of the Chirac Foundation; Michel Camdessus, Former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; Federico Mayor, Former Director General of UNESCO; Andrea Riccardi, Founder of the Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio, Simone Veil, Member of the Académie Française, and Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria. The Award Ceremony will be held in November, in the Sorbonne in Paris.

The Jacques Chirac Foundation for Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development is established with the aim of protecting the environment and saving dying languages and cultures.
