Gamal Hammad Lectures at the BA

Posted on

Alexandria— On the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the July 1952 Revolution, the BA Special Projects Department, within the “Memory of Modern Egypt” Project, hosts Major General Gamal Hammad, one of the leaders of Revolution, on Sunday 26 July 2009.

Hammad played a major role in the success of the Revolution, especially on the night of 23 July. He was elected Infantry Board Member of the Officer’s Club by the club’s General Assembly on the eve of the year 1952. He also wrote the first Revolution Proclamation, that was announced on the radio by the late President Sadat.

In spite of his contributions to the Revolution, Hammad insisted on remaining in his military career and refused any civilian post, this is perhaps why he was among the first of the Free Officers to be granted the rank of General.

It is worth mentioning that the “Memory of Modern Egypt” is a definitive digital repository of materials documenting Egypt’s rich modern history during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through photographs, films, stamps, coins, newspapers, magazines, documents, and historical studies that were drafted specifically for the Project.

The Lecture is held at the BACC Lectures Hall at 8:00 pm.
