Alexandria— The BA Calligraphy Center holds a Lecture entitled “Recent Excavations in Nelson Island” on Thursday, 29 October 2009. The Lecture is given by Dr. Paolo Gallo, Professor of Egyptology at Torino University, Italy, and Head of the Italian Expedition in Alexandria.

Nelson Island is located at the gulf of Abu Kir on the Mediterranean coast, East of Alexandria. It was named after the English Military Leader following Abu Kir Battle, in which Nelson defeated Napoleon Bonaparte.

Dr. Gallo’s discoveries led to finding monuments that date back to the 26th dynasty of the Egyptian Pharaohs. Corps of English soldiers who died in the battle of Abu Kir were also found, and they were reburied in the Commonwealth tombs in Alexandria.

The Lecture is held at the BACC Lectures Hall at 6:00 pm, and is open for public.
