Alexandria— The Folke Bernadotte Academy of Sweden, in cooperation with the Institute for Peace Studies (IPS) hosted at the BA, the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, will hold a conference entitled “Preventive Diplomacy and Peacemaking” on 4 and 5 November 2009.
Forty five prominent practitioners and scholars from the Middle East and the Nordic countries, including Ambassador Jan Egeland of Norway, Ambassador Ahmed Maher, Former Foreign Minister of Egypt, and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, will gather to discuss preventive diplomacy and peacemaking.
The Conference has several goals: promoting policy relevant research; creating an opportunity for a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge among scholars and practitioners; and contributing to developing a conflict prevention and peacemaking toolkit of relevance for policy makers and practitioners.
The Conference will take place at the BA and the Swedish Institute.
