The Legacy of Volta Exhibition at the BA
Posted on
Alexandria—The BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) holds an Exhibition entitled “The Legacy of Volta: From the Battery to Photovoltaic Electricity” from 9 November to 3 December 2009.
The Exhibition gives an idea of the electrical seeds laid down by the Italian Physicist Alessandro Volta (1745-1827), and of the way they produced fruit in subsequent science. Some of Volta’s original instruments and other nineteenth-century originals, all coming from the historical collections of the University of Pavia, where Volta taught for many years, are the first actors in the historical picture proposed to the visitor.
Additional modern objects, also lent by the University of Pavia, illustrate some of the recent useful applications of the “Volta effect”. Modern hands-on exhibits and multimedia animations, made available by the PSC and the University of Pavia, enable visitors to restage various historical steps illustrated in the exhibition.
A special section, prepared by the Instituto Lombardo, based in Milan, highlights the long role the Institute has played over time in gathering a large voltaic corpus, which includes his original manuscripts, which it owns now.
The Inaugural Ceremony of the Legacy of Volta Exhibition takes place on Monday, 9 November 2009 at the BA Auditorium, at 11:00 am . The Exhibition will be on display at the Discovery Zone, the ALEXploratorium, BA Planetarium.
