Smithsonian Institution in Cairo Salon

Alexandria—The weekly Cairo Salon TV show, presented by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, dedicates a special episode to Smithsonian Institution. The episode will be aired on Friday, 18 December 2009, at 20:00 hrs., on Egyptian TV Channel One.

Smithsonian Institution, one of the world’s first research institutes, was founded in 1846 for the “increase and diffusion of knowledge” according to James Smithson’s will. The Institution has 16 museums and exhibitions with a collection of over than 142 million items, in addition to a zoo. It publishes two magazines and employs its own police.
