The BA inaugurated “The World Is Rising Up: United Against Extremism” Conference on Tuesday, 17 January. The conference is set to be held from 17 to 19 January 2017, and its participants include international researchers, intellectuals, and experts specialized in the issues of extremism.
During the opening of the conference, Dr. Ismail Sergeldin signed memorandums of agreement on cooperating in the counter extremism and terrorism program with Major GeneralKhalid Al Fadhala, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies; Mr. Andrius Becys, Head of the Transnational European Mediterranean Association for Cooperation; and Mr. Diaa Rashwan, Director of the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies.
The opening session was attended by a large number of Egyptian intellectuals and their peers from Arab countries, as well as academics from European countries, the USA, and Asia. The participants hope that this year’s conference will be fruitful in exploring and examining the issue of extremism, its different dimensions, and the efforts aiming to combat it. The title of this year’s conference indicates that the ..., that terrorism is limited to the Arab region or that, as some prefer to claim, terrorism is associated with Muslim communities alone. Extremism has become a global phenomenon ailing the entire world, and thus, we must stand united in combatting it.
