Preparatory Meeting for the Alliance of Civilization Conference at the BA

Alexandria—The First Preparatory Meeting for the Euro-Mediterranean Conference for the Alliance of Civilizations, co-organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the BA was held on 15 and 16 January 2010.
Senior officials from 40 Euro-Mediterranean countries participated in the Meeting, in addition to representatives of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, and several international and regional organizations, on top of which the League of Arab States.
The Meeting was chaired by Ambassador Raouf Saad, Assistant to the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Participants agreed on proposing a regional strategy reflecting the commitments of Euro-Mediterranean countries towards establishing dialogue among civilizations. They also agreed on the Conference tentative program proposed by President Mubarak, with the participation of Presidents, Prime Ministers and Ministers of Foreign Affairs from countries involved in the alliance of civilizations. The Conference will issue “Alexandria Declaration”, asserting values and principles of the alliance of civilizations.
