The Intel BA Science and Engineering Fair

Alexandria—The BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC), under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), and in collaboration with Intel Co., and the American Center in Alexandria, is organizing the Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) on 10 and 11 March 2010.
Recognizing the importance of research and innovation, Intel BASEF hosts more than 70 project prepared by either teams of 2 to 3 students or individuals. This competition prepares students from all over Egypt for participating, competing, and winning in the national competition, Egypt Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ESEF). Winning projects represent Egypt in the international competition, International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), that will take place in San Jose, California, USA, from 9 to 14 May 2010.
Intel BASEF brings together students, 14-18 years of age, from more than 50 schools in Alexandria and neighboring governorates to research, innovate and compete in preparation for ISEF. Briefing sessions will be provided to participating teams and individuals, in addition to training mentors on methods of guiding and leading their students.
The students’ projects will be judged by university professors, specialized scientists and engineers, as well as industry professional volunteers. The Grand Award evaluation is judged using a 100-point scale, with points assigned to creative abilities, scientific thinking, engineering goals, thoroughness, skills, and clarity.
It is worth mentioning that Intel ISEF, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, provides a forum for more than 1,500 high school students from over 40 countries to showcase their independent research, share ideas, showcase cutting-edge science projects, and compete over millions of dollars in scholarships, tuition grants, scientific equipment, and scientific trips.
