Serageldin Gives his Inaugural Lecture at Collège de France

As Professor for the International Chair Savoirs contre pauvreté (Knowledge Against Poverty), at Collège de France, Paris, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, gave his Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 18 November 2010.
Drawing large audience, the lecture held in the amphithéâtre Marguerite de Navarre was very well-received, and another hall was opened to accommodate the large numbers.
Entitled Mobiliser le savoir pour éradiquer la faim (Mobilizing Knowledge to Eradicate Hunger), the much awaited lecture is the first in a course of lectures that will be given by Serageldin at Collège de France over the month of January 2011 tackling various issues pertaining to food security, including the causes of hunger; relative and absolute poverty; deprivation, dispossession and social marginalization; hunger and poverty in urban and rural areas; the problems of the ultra-poor; agriculture and the environment; the impact of climate change; and the role of science in eradicating hunger and poverty.
