Celebrating the 75th Birthday of Farouq Shousha

The BA holds a Celebration for Poet Farouq Shousha entitled “A Journey of Creativity” on Saturday, 29 January 2011, attended by a number of Egyptian intellectuals and poets interested in poetry and Arabic language.
 

The Opening Session includes speeches by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Salah Fadl and Farouq Shousha, as well as a screening of the television program Portrait. This is followed by a testimony session moderated by Dr. Mahmoud El-Rabey, Dr. Hamasa Abd El-Latif, and Poet Mohamed Abu Senna.
 

The ceremony also includes a Poetry Night by poets Shousha, Abu Senna and Omar Hazeq moderated by Poet Fouad Taman. This is followed by a musical concert for the Cultural Palace Arabic Choir, conductor Mahmoud Abu Zeid featuring poems by Shousha with music.
 

Farouq Shousha is an Egyptian poet born in 1936 in Damietta. He was Head of the Egyptian Radio. He is currently a Professor of Arabic Literature at the American University in Cairo (AUC), Chancellor of the Academy of the Arabic Language in Egypt, Head of the Text Committees in the Egyptian Radio and Television, and a Member in the Poetry Committee in the Supreme Council for Culture.
 

The ceremony starts at 4:30 at the BACC Great Hall.
