The BA Dialogue Forum organized a seminar on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 entitled “The Wave of Democracy in the Arab World” hosting General Sameh Seif El-Yazal, Chair of El-Gomhoreya Center for Political and Security Studies, and moderated by Sameh Fawzy, Deputy Director of the BA Dialogue Forum.

Seif El-Yazal stated that the popular uprisings that the Arab world is currently witnessing are a result of several factors including corruption, the monopoly of resources in the hands of a few and tyranny.

He condemned atrocities exercised by Qaddafi on his people, and expressed his fears from the division of Libya to several countries. In the same context, Seif El-Yazal stated that these problems are more threatening in Yemen which was previously divided into 2 countries one in the north and one in the south until it was unified by military power in 1990.

On the current situation in Egypt, he thinks that the next president should not belong to a certain political party, and should have a plan of action to address several pressing issues including education, unemployment, price increases, stability and security.
