Ramadan Lanterns Project

Posted on

The BA Youth Activities Unit hosts “Ramadan Lanterns” Project held by Adwar Initiative.

Adwar aims to promote youth empowerment and self development, and to make the best use of youth abilities. They believe in the effective role of youth to strengthen Egyptian economy, develop Egyptian industries and local products to enable Egyptian economy to cope with foreign economies. In the holy month of Ramadan, lanterns appear as an important manifestation of joy; however in the last few years, this industry has been receiving lesser attention. There has been a tendency to rely on importing them from China, Japan and other countries. The project revives this industry through manufacturing “Ramadan lanterns”, with simple materials, as a practical model to encourage entrepreneurship in Egypt.

The project seeks to spread the cultures of entrepreneurship and volunteerism, support the Egyptian economy, promote local products, revive heritage and balance it with modernism, promote innovation and provide job opportunities.

Besides lanterns, the project expanded to include beads, accessories, t-shirts, bags, pillows, stationary (notebooks, bookmarks…) as well as other products.

Workshops are held as of 16 August. An exhibition displaying the products will be held from 21 to 25 August 2011 at the BACC West Exhibition Hall.
