“Gift of Diversity” Conference Opening at the Library of Alexandria

The Library of Alexandria featured on Monday, 22 October 2018, the opening of  “Gift of Diversity: Constructive Pluralism for Onself and the Other(1986)” conference,  in cooperation with Rimini Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples in Italy.

Engineer Hoda El-Mikaty, Deputy Director of the BA, was the main speaker of the first session titled “Beauty of Diversity: the Model of Remini Meeting”, on behalf  of Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, in addition to Emilia Guarnieri, Head of Rimini Meeting for Friendship among Peoples, and Dr. Wael Farouq, Professor of Arabic Literature, Catholic University – Milan. 

Engineer Hoda El-mikaty stated that “The Library of Alexandria organized several mutual projects and initiatives with Italy since its inauguration”.  She assured that Italy was one of the most supportive countries to the revival of the library of Alexandria project.

Emilia Guarnieri, Head of Rimini Meeting for Friendship among Peoples expressed her delight to be in Alexandria and its Library, referring to the strong historical relationship between Egypt and Italy, especially the city of Alexandria.

“The ancient Library of Alexandria was constructed to be a center of attraction to the world’s cultures, and today, the Library of Alexandria is using culture as a tool of dialogue and undertanding among nations.” Emilia Guarnieri added.

In his address, Dr. Wael Farouq, stated that the title of the conference reflects the long experience of Remini Meeting that extends over 40 years, stressing on the importance of diversity as a gift of God. Dr Farouq assured that the human experience and humanbeing is at the core this meeting interests, and that diversity and self-awareness encourage the concept of dialogue and meeting with others.
