The Planetarium Science Center of the BA Cultural Outreach Sector launches the exhibition “Alexandria: the Lighthouse of Technology,” on Wednesday, 24 October 2018. It is a travelling exhibition that comprises a selection of the acquisitions belonging to the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Athens.

The exhibition aims to highlight the relatively unknown side of the ancient civilization in order to prove the fact that many sciences and technologies were created by prominent Greek architects and scientists in Hellenistic Alexandria such as Ctesibius, Philo, Eratosthenes, Aristarchus, Apollonius, Hipparchus, Dionysius and Ptolemy.

It is worth mentioning that the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is based on three facilities: “The Museum of Greek Technology” and the “Museum of Musical Instruments and Greek Sports” in Athens; “The Museum of Greek Technology” and the “Museum of Archimedes” in ancient Olympia.

The exhibition focuses mainly on the study of Greek, Latin and ancient Arabic literature in addition to information on painting on vases, and covers the period from 2000 BC to the end of the Greek Era. It is held in the BACC East Exhibition Hall, and continues until 30 October 2018.
