Over the years, Sinai has enjoyed a religious position that attracted the attention of travelers. It witnessed the Holy Family’s famous journey to Egypt, and was a refuge for the Egyptians who fled the persecution of the Romans.

In light of the interest of the BA General Collections and Services Department to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness of the importance of Sinai, it organizes a lecture entitled “The Importance of Sinai through the Writings of European Travelers in the Middle Ages,” on Monday, 29 October 2018, at 1.00 pm, in the Auditorium. Dr. Yasser Mostafa Abdel Wahab, Associate Professor of Middle Ages History and Civilization, History Department, Faculty of Arts, Kafrelsheikh University will deliver the lecture. It aims to highlight and track what travelers had recorded in their trips to the Sinai Peninsula through the writings of European travelers who came to visit Sinai.

The lecture is open to the public and will be accompanied by a display of Arabic and foreign books and references which tackle the history of Sinai, and which are part of the Main Library’s collection.
