The BA Antiquities Museum and the Center of Egyptology and Coptic Studies in Italy co-organize an exhibition entitled “In the Footsteps of Champollion: Archaeology, Views and Travel Experiences in the Nile Valley”, from 17 to 31 October 2012.

The exhibition, which coincides with celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Library of Alexandria, sheds light on the invaluable contributions of the French scholar Jean François Champollion. It is thanks to him that the hieroglyphic inscriptions on the Rosetta Stone were deciphered. The publication of his Précis du système hiéroglyphique des anciens Égyptiens in 1824 opened the door for Egyptology. Parallel to the exhibition, a workshop will be held to raise the cultural awareness of school and university students, allowing them to apply Champollion’s techniques.
