Alexandria, 26 December 2004–

The Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting and organizing the Creative Forum for Independent Theater Groups (Europe- Mediterranean) from 28 December 2004 to 5 January 2005. The forum is a platform for performances of modern, dance and physical theater. It will also serve as an opportunity for training, dialogue, experience-exchange and networking between European and Mediterranean independent theater groups, aiming at developing the concept of partnership and cooperation in order to strengthen the movement of independent theater on local and international levels.

By presenting more than a dozen theater performances, seven acting workshops, as well as roundtable discussions and seminars, the Forum will provide the perfect opportunity for self expression, the exchange of experiences and suitable settings to get creatively inspired by Alexandria, the cosmopolitan city. Several countries from around the world will take part in this second edition of the Forum; groups from Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, the Netherlands, Palestine, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia and the UK are among the participants.

The BA has undertaken this cultural and artistic initiative, in its policy to put forward both the European and Mediterranean cultures, which are considered as constituents of the Egyptian culture. The Library of Alexandria also aims at reviving the message of enlightenment and human knowledge so that the city of Alexandria with all its historical depth, consequently, becomes a real home for the birth of a new culture based on dialogue, peace and knowledge, highlighting the unity of human emotions.
