Alexandria, 28 December 2004–
A high profile delegation of Arab ambassadors, coordinators and members of the Barcelona Process (Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue Initiative), headed by Ambassador Ashraf Rashed, Assistant to the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs, paid an official visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), 16 December 2004. As the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has recently been chosen as headquarters for the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Exchange of Intercultural Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue, the delegation was received by both Ambassador Taher Khalifa, Head of the External Affairs Sector and Dr. Mohamed Awad, Director of the Alex-Med Center at BA.
The delegation received a presentation of the services provided by BA to its public, as well as the various research centers, museums and exhibitions affiliated to the Library of Alexandria. At the end of the visit, Ambassador Rashed expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the visit, asserting that BA is indeed a respectable front for the whole Arab world and not just Egypt, as it must act as a cultural bridge between East and West and allow for the free exchange of enlightening aspects from and to both sides of the globe.
