Alexandria, 11 January 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Center is organizing a cinema program entitled American Cinema: Cinema and Novels from 16-20 January 2005. The program consists of a number of films, considered the best of the international cinema, for the leading novelists (Steinbeck–Hemingway–Tolstoy–Fast) and the best directors.
Maestro Sherif Mohie Eldin, Director of BA Arts Center, announced that as a result of the Center’s particular interest in introducing the distinguished works of cinema to the Egyptian audience, it is showing For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Sun Also Rises by the great, international novelist Ernest Hemingway; The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck; War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, and Spartacus by Howard Fast.
It is worth noting that during the last two years the Center has introduced different types of American cinema starting with the silent movie Intolerance for the revolutionist of American cinema, Griffith. Last year, the Center presented a brief on Oscar, one of the most famous and important American cinema awards, on occasion of the elapse of 75 years since its initiation.
