Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, inaugurated yesterday the BA Eleventh International Biennale for the Artist’s Book, which is organized by the Library’s Art Exhibitions and Collections Department, and is held in the BACC East and West Exhibition Halls.
The Biennale presents 25 art books from La Diane Française publishing house, which specializes in the original limited editions of the artist's book – a collection gifted to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as well as a distinguished artwork from China that showcases the ancient traditional Chinese art of writing, with 24 paintings representing periods of climate change throughout the year.
The Biennale exhibits a collection of publications reflecting the use of graphic art and design in printing and publishing in Egypt in the first half of the twentieth century, reproduced from the collection of the Egyptian National Library and Archives, and displayed in collaboration with this prestigious institution. It also features a collection of reproductions of the costumes of the opera Aida, which was designed by the famous French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette.
Participants in this round include 17 artists from Egypt, with a special tribute to artist Hazem Al-Mistikawy, whose art was closely associated with symbolism, crafts, and writing.
The exhibition runs from 4 – 24 September 2024, daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, except on Fridays.
