Seminar: “The Role of Civil Society in Enhancing Participation”

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized yesterday a panel discussion entitled "The Role of Civil Society in Enhancing Participation", with the participation of Dr. Ayman Abdel Wahab, Vice President of Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies; Dr. Mohamed Mamdouh, Member of the National Council for Human Rights; Prof. Howayda Adly Roman, Professor of Political Science at the National Center for Social and Criminal Research; and Youssef Wardany, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qudrat Misr Association for Youth and Development. The event was moderated by Prof. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, Alexandria University, and was attended by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Dr. Sameh Fawzy, Senior Researcher at the BA; a host of experts; and those interested in the field of civil work.
Dr. Sameh Fawzy said that this seminar was organized by Misr Al-Ghad initiative affiliated to the Technical Office of the BA Director, which was launched by Dr. Ahmed Zayed upon taking up his position at the Library, with the aim of studying the changes surrounding Egyptian society, such as the role of civil society, development projects, and the modernization of public institutions. He also stressed the role of civil society as a social capital and highlighted the importance of its partnership with the state in the fields of development.
For his part, Prof. Ahmed Zayed stated that Misr Al-Ghad initiative is concerned with several topics, including civil society, the Hayah Karima projects, and building the capacity of young people.
