The BA The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) and the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Center in Cairo and the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Alexandria, organize a workshop entitled "A Journey through Egyptian Museums: from Ptolemy Philadelphus to Giuseppe Botti.” The workshop is held on Sunday, 27 October 2024, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the BACC Delegates Hall.

The workshop aims to explore the links between the first museum in the history of humanity that was built in the third century BC (the Mouseion) and the first museum in the Arab world that was founded in the late nineteenth century (the Greco-Roman Museum), both of which were established in Alexandria.

The workshop will also highlight the importance of the Greco-Roman Museum as a cultural institution, as well as the historical legacy of Ptolemy II Philadelphus’s Mouseion, highlighting Alexandria's role as the cradle of Arab museology.

The workshop is open to the public until the maximum capacity of the hall is reached.
