The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Senghor University in Alexandria, l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), and the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) are organizing the third edition of the international conference "From Stone to Writing, from Writing to Digitization" under the title "Defining Cultural Values of African Water Heritage (Seas, Rivers, and Lakes)" from 5 to 7 November 2024 at the BA and Senghor University in Alexandria. The first day of the conference will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, 5 November 2024, in the BA Small Theater, and the rest of the sessions will be held on 6 and 7 November 2024 at Senghor University in Alexandria.

This edition sheds light on the theme of water and its link to the cultural heritage of African cities in ancient times. It also discusses myth-based folk tales that are related to rivers and waterways in different regions of the African continent and proven through rock and epigraphical inscriptions across various disciplines such as geography, law, sociology, and library science.

Simultaneous interpretation in Arabic and French is available.

The opening session will be broadcast on the BA Francophone Network page:
