The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Senghor University in Alexandria, l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), and the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) organized the third edition of the international conference "From Stone to Writing, from Writing to Digitization" under the title "Defining Cultural Values of African Water Heritage (Seas, Rivers, and Lakes)", as part of the African continent’s endeavor to preserve its environmental and cultural heritage.

The conference brought together academics and experts in the fields of heritage and technology, where participants discussed different aspects of African cultural heritage including geography, governance, beliefs, and traditions.

The BA took part in the conference with a distinguished lecture presented by Dr. Ahmed Mansour, Director of the Writing and Scripts Center. Dr. Mansour shed light on maritime heritage in ancient Egypt and the evidence of artistic and archaeological inscriptions related to the Red Sea.

The conference concluded with recommendations that called on African and international academic and research institutions to join hands and work to adopt more digital innovations to support efforts towards the documentation and protection of water heritage.
