Dr. Ismail Serageldin attends the World Economic Forum

Alexandria, 25 January 2005—Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), is attending the World Economic Forum’s 2005 Meeting, under the theme Taking Responsibility for Tough Choices, held from 26-30 January 2005 in Davos, Switzerland.

Amongst the 2250 leaders from over 26 countries taking part in various sessions of the Forum, Dr. Serageldin will be participating in the sessions concerning Balancing Growth and Equity in the Global Economy, Alternative Futures for the Middle East and Exploring the Limits of Security and Liberty.

The World Economic Forum was founded in 1971 and is held annually with the participation of eminent scholars, economists and politicians from different backgrounds. They discuss the ongoing issues, trying to reach solutions for the difficulties facing the world, over the course of the five-day meeting. They have placed special emphasis this year on Tough Issues such as Climate Change, Equitable Globalization, Global Economy, Middle East, Poverty, Weapons of Mass Destruction and World Trade.

The World Economic Forum is incorporated as a foundation, based in Geneva, Switzerland. It is impartial, not-for-profit, and is tied to no political, partisan or national interests. It is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world.

The Forum provides a collaborative framework for the world’s leaders to address global issues, engaging particularly its corporate members in global citizenship. It has NGO consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
