The BA Writing and Scripts Center has published the book Inscriptions of Mamluk Decrees and Orders in Syria by researcher Dr. Farag Al-Husseini, Assistant Professor of Islamic Inscriptions and Writings at the Faculty of Archaeology, Luxor University.

This book is the second part of a project to document and revive Mamluk inscriptions in Syria, which was initiated by the Writing and Scripts Center more than ten years ago. The results of the first part of the project culminated in the publication of the book Arabic Calligraphy Diwan in Syria: Inscriptions of Mamluk Buildings, published in 2018 by the same author. Since its establishment in 2003, the Writing and Scripts Center has undertaken the task of preserving the heritage of inscriptions and writings in Egypt and the Arab world, fulfilling two main tasks: The first is field research to document inscriptions, and the second is the study and scientific publishing of inscriptions and writings.

This new publication provides an accurate documentation of the heritage of Islamic inscriptions on the monuments of the Mamluk state in Syria, in light of the wars and conflicts that had a profound negative impact on the cultural heritage, threatening it with destruction or extinction. It documents the decrees issued during the Mamluk era in Syria in the period from 658-922 AH/1260-1516 AD (Damascus and the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, and Tripoli).

The book's methodology is based on the archaeological and artistic study of the inscriptions of these decrees and orders, which were engraved on a variety of structures and buildings.
