The BA Arts Center’s February Program

Alexandria, 2 February 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Center presents this month, a wide array of performances.

Among these performances is the play, Al Setara by the great writer Youssef Idris, directed by Thea Dumsch. The play, staged from 5-7 February, is organized in collaboration with Pro-Helvetia and I-ACT.

The program also comprises many musical performances. On 9 February, the BA Chamber Orchestra is playing, for two days, works of Mendelssohn and Boccherini for the Egyptian Association of Friends of Bibliotheca Alexandrina; the first day in Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, the second day in the “atelier”. Abdel-Hamid El-Shweikh, a member of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, is joining the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Chamber Orchestra on the cello, in a concert presenting works of Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky, on 17 February. A Oud recital, by Ghassan Youssef, will take place on 18 February. A concert by Manfred Leucher Quintet and Nomade Band for Oriental Jazz, will take place on 25 February, in cooperation with the Goethe Institute. Last but not least, the French cello soloist, Walter Grimmer, will be joining the BA Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Sherif Mohie Eldin, to present works of Boccherini and Couperin, on 26 February.

Over the course of two weeks (12-23 February), during the European Cinema Festival, there will be a collection of European films, featuring Shouf, Shouf, Habibi from Holland, Facing the Truth from Denmark, I Am Not Afraid from Italy, Totally Married from Greece, and Invisible from Sweden.
