The Poet and Critic Seminar at BA

Alexandria, 8 February 2005— The Dialogue Forum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) organized a seminar titled Poet and Critic, on 5 February 2005, featuring the Egyptian poet, Mr. Ahmed Abd El-Mo’ti Hegazi, and Dr. Hamasa Abdel Latif, Professor of Criticism and member of the Academy of the Arabic Language.
During his words, Mr. Hegazi pointed out that poetry not only has an artistic value, but also an ethical value and impact, which is ever present in the poet’s mind.
He also added that the poet is always in search of the hidden meaning beyond the reality in which he lives; endeavoring to express these profound meanings through poetical verses, surpassing any previous attempts to do so.
During the seminar, Mr. Hegazi, recited some of his poems including; Elegy for a Circus Acrobat, The Creature of the Night Kingdom and Street Lights.
Following the recital, Dr. Hamasa critiqued Mr. Hegazi’s poetry and his style in using rhyming schemes, stressing that a poetic movement would cease to exist without all of the poet, the critic and the audience.
