Alexandria, 13 February 2005—During his tour of the Smart Village and the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mr. Bill Gates, President of Microsoft Corporation, attended Culturama. Culturama is a panoramic show developed by Dr. Fathy Saleh, Director of the Egyptian Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), who obtained a patent for this remarkable project. CULTNAT is affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
Mr. Gates expressed his admiration of the show and how it is very informative, stating that he learned more about Egyptian cultural heritage and about ancient Egyptians’ contribution in the field of astronomy.
Culturama has proven to be an excellent tool for delivering information to both children and adults.
The hardware consists of a 180 degrees panoramic interactive computer screen with a diameter of 10 meters that is made up of nine separate flat screens arranged in a semicircle and nine video projectors controlled by a single computer.
The key factor for Culturama’s success is the amount and type of information it contains, together with the methodology, which make it both simple and clear.
