Alexandrina International Book Fair activities

Alexandria, 16 February 2005—Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA); Engineer Ibrahim El Moalem, Head of the Arab Publishers Union; Mohamed Rashad, Secretary-General of the Egyptian and Arab Publishers’ Union; and General Abdel Salam El Mahgoub, Governor of Alexandria, are inaugurating the Alexandrina International Book Fair, on 17 February 2005. The book fair is organized by BA in collaboration with the Egyptian Publishers’ Union, under the theme of Women and Children.
Along with the book fair there are a number of cultural activities taking place, in Kouta Land, including literary and scientific seminars, workshops, as well as educational lectures for children.
The seminars held will discuss many issues concerning women such as
the Political Image of Women; Women and Art; Women in Ancient Egypt; Women, between Reality and the Imagination; Women and Egyptian Artistic Creativity; Women and Cinema; and Marginalized Women.
In addition to the seminars, there are poetry nights held during the book fair featuring the Egyptian poet, Sayed Hegab and the singer, Ali El Haggar; the poet, Ahmed El Shahawy and the musician, Said Shafik with Oud; the poet, Farouk Gweida and the piano player, Amir Awad; the poet, Gamal El Sha’er and the guitarist, Emad Hamdy. The final poetry night will feature the poet, Ahmed Abdel Mo’ti Hegazi along with the singer, Reda El Wakeel.
