The Digitizing of El Helal Magazine at BA

Alexandria, 20 February 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and Dar El Helal Publishing organized a press conference on 19 February 2005, during which Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Mr. Makram Mohamed Ahmed, President of Dar El Helal Publishing, announced the completion of the first phase of digitizing the issues of El Helal magazine. This project is within the framework of BA’s goals of becoming a leading institution of the digital age.
The project, carried out by the Manuscript Center at BA, includes the digitization of the old issues of the magazine since 1892, using the most technological digitizing devices. It includes the building of a database to facilitate search for topics in the magazine. A compact disc containing all the issues of the digital magazine was also prepared.
Mr. Makram Mohamed Ahmed asserted his gratitude and appreciation to BA for its role and for BA employees’ efforts in preserving Egyptian heritage of 113 years.
