Alexandria, 7 April 2005—The documentary, entitled Bibliotheca Alexandrina, premiered in Bonner Kinemathek, Germany, on 12 March 2005, on the occasion of the German Librarians Day.

Directed by Anke Limprecht, the documentary (17 min) highlights the ancient library of Alexandria (built in 295 BCE*) as the most famous and largest place of scientific research among all ancient libraries; the circumstances of its destruction; and the rebirth of the Library of Alexandria with the support of the Egyptian government and UNESCO, in 2002.

During the premiere, Dr. Hans Peter Geh, member of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Board of Trustees, introduced BA and explained its programs and activities.

Ms Limprecht, both librarian and director, visited BA in April 2004 to shoot the Library of Alexandria for , her latest documentary. She then spent a year preparing the final version of the film. She has directed many cultural and educational documentaries, including "Lehrfilm über die Rekonstruktion von Stasiakten/Educational film about State Security Files" that was screened at more than 40 international festivals and was awarded several prizes.
