He is heading a delegation from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina including Dr. Rafik Nakhla, Head, Personnel Department at the BA; and Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director, Center for Special Studies and Programs.

The World Life Sciences Forum BioVision brings together the top decision-makers and stakeholders; policy-makers, members of government, ethicists, researchers, consumer representatives, patients associations, NGOs and media, with the aim of fostering open debate and exchange between Science, Society at large and Industry concerning vital Life Sciences issues facing our world today.

The 2005 Forum will include discussions on Women, Health and Science; Brain Research and New Technologies; BioIndustry and Environment; and Agriculture and Nutrition. It includes a Nobel Laureates’ Day on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the polio vaccine. The nine themes of the Parallel Conferences form the core of BioVision 2005, and focus on Health, Agriculture and the Environment.

Participants will balance the benefits and risks of scientific and industrial progress to the benefit of humankind. The Parallel Conferences will result in recommendations to be discussed with and distributed to large international organizations and other decision-makers. BioVision 2005 also includes Thematic Plenary Sessions on Animal Health and Human Illnesses, as well as Brain Research and New Technologies. In addition, Debate Dinners will be held, providing a wide variety of controversial topics in the Life Sciences for debate and discussion.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the BioVisionAlexandria Conference, 3-6 April 2004, where Healthcare and the Poor, Agriculture and Safe Food Sufficiency, Exploiting Biodiversity and Protecting the Environment, as well as Trade, Patents and Developing Countries were explored. BioVisionAlexandria, held at the BA, will be convened every even year, therefore alternating with The World Life Sciences Forum BioVision, held every odd year in Lyon, France. It will focus on Life Sciences and Sustainable Development, giving priority to concrete actions between the South and the North.
