27th MELCOM International Conference

Alexandria, 22 May 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting the 27th MELCOM International Conference, 23-25 May 2005.
Bringing together over 120 librarians from around the globe, it will provide international exchange of ideas on librarianship and book research in a friendly and professional environment, combined with informal activities and scholarly tourism. Participants from the BA are Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Head of Libraries Sector, and Dr. Youssef Ziedan, Director of the Manuscript Center and Museum.
Among the topics that will be discussed in the conference are Libraries in the Arab World and International Cooperation; Manuscript Collections; Information Technology and Libraries; Electronic publishing and Manuscript Cataloguing; Cataloguing Policies and Practices; Manuscript Conservation; and History of Printing.
MELCOM is the acronym of Middle East Librarian Committee. It is the European Association of Middle East Librarians, a non-governmental organization enhancing cooperation among individuals and institutions in Europe, North America and the Middle East devoted to all aspects of librarianship, book collecting, the book trade and publishing.
