Alexandria, 22 May 2005—The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), is launching the 2005 BA Research Grants program for young Egyptian postdoctoral researchers seeking funds in one of the following areas of study: Agricultural Sciences, Earth Sciences, Biology, Information Technology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Medical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Technologies, Physics and Astronomy.
The program aims to help promote scientific and research progress in Egypt through the establishment of productive, mutually beneficial relationships between Egyptian and foreign science and engineering communities. This is intended to encourage the use and development of complementary experience and skills between the Egyptian researcher and the foreign researcher. CSSP provides its grants within a predetermined budget set by the BA.
The first BA Research Grant program in 2004 witnessed the awarding of nine researchers. Selection, undertaken by an International Reviewers Committee, was based on the project objective, its clarity and originality, as well as the project design and budget.
