First Meeting of International Supporters of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Alexandria, 6 June 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the First Meeting of International Supporters of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, 6-7 June 2005.
The meeting aims to support, in a more systematic way, the major efforts of the BA to promote the values of tolerance, pluralism, dialogue and understanding, and enhance its capabilities as a major resource for the spread of the values of learning, rationality and science among youth.
The programs and projects are presented under thematic groupings that highlight the BA’s role as: a leader in the digitization, preservation and management of heritage; a center of excellence on specialized topics; an actor in the sustainable development of the city; an innovator in cultural and artistic interaction; an incubator for children’s talents, a promoter of science and technology; a catalyst of reform in the region; an apex for networks and partnerships; as well as a meeting point for dialogue and understanding between people.
Representatives of foundations, multilateral agencies, bilateral agencies, ministries, as well as many ambassadors will be gathered to discuss issues such as multi-donor project finance, procurement regulations, financial regulations and others.
Participants include representatives of SIDA, The Bertelsmann Foundation (Germany), Care (USA), European Investment Bank, World Bank, UNESCO, UNIFEM, FAO , WHO, International Fund for Agricultural Development, The Council of the European Commission, as well as embassies of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA.
