Arab Cinema from the East and the West at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Alexandria, 14 June 2005— The Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a cinema festival about "Arab Cinema from the East and the West", 19-23 June 2005. The festival aims to introduce the Egyptian audience to Arab films not screened in theaters, thus highlighting the diversity of the Arab culture.
The program features 7 films throughout the five days: "The Broken Wings" (Directed by Youssef Maalouf, Lebanon,1964); "The Net" (Directed by Ghouti bin-Darwish, Algeria,1976); "The Fragment" (Directed by Mohamed Ali El-Firjani, Libya, 1985); "The Sheikh’s Blessing" (Directed by Jadallah Jabara, Sudan,1998); "Satin Rouge" (Directed by Rajaa Emari, Tunisia, 2002).
The Arts Center also organized a special program about "Lebanon: War and Peace" in 2003, featuring 7 unscreened films. In 2004 and for the first time in Egypt, the Center organized a program dedicated to Gulf Cinema featuring films from Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
