Homage to the Ancient Library of Alexandria

Alexandria, 21 June 2005—The Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandria (BA) is holding an exhibition in the BA Plaza, 30 June – 5 August, displaying the metal sculptures from a sculpting workshop organized by the BA at the Center for Beautifying Alexandria.
Paying homage to the Ancient Library of Alexandria, the workshop, held from mid to the end of June, involves the sculpting of characters associated with the history of the Ancient Library, by a group of artists. Characters include Cleopatra, Marc Anthony, Ptolemy I, Theocrat, Menathon, Hypatia and Demetrius of Phaleron. The exhibition will also contain the sculpture of a papyrus with the Greek names of the ancient librarians of Alexandria and the periods of their leadership.
Among the artists participating in the workshop are Essam Ezzat, Hany Faisal, Hassan Kamel and Hussein Abdel-Basset.
