Lecture: Implementing the development goals of the 3rd Millennium in Egypt

Alexandria, 17 August 2005—The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a lecture on 20 August entitled “The development goals for the third millennium: An Egyptian viewpoint”. This is within the framework of the Center’s training program on modern trends in developing education and environmental sustainability.
The lecture features Professor Mostafa Tolba, former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), who will shed light on the eight development goals for the next millennium that have been agreed upon internationally and are to be implemented by 196 countries including Egypt.
Professor Tolba will discuss the implementation of these millennium development goals in Egypt, such as the abolition of poverty and hunger, obliteration of illiteracy, promotion of equality among both sexes and the decrease of infant mortality.
This training program includes a series of lectures, activities and visits aiming to promote interest among youth in education and self-learning. In addition, it aims to illuminate new techniques in education such as virtual schools and universities, distance-learning as well as education via online resources.
The lecture begins at 5 pm in the Oriental Restaurant of the BA Conference Center.
