Celebrating the International Day of Peace

Alexandria, 21 September 2005—Honoring the UN-declared International Day of Peace, 21 September 2005, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting a celebration organized by the Culture of Peace Support Group in Alexandria, within the framework of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement.
The event will be inaugurated by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and will include addresses by Ms. Amaal Tala"at, Director of the General Egyptian Association for Child Protection; Mr. Ahmed Abbas, General Coordinator of the Peace Culture Promotion among Youth project, and Mr. Ashraf Abdel Moneim, Coordinator of the Peace Culture Promotion among Youth project in Alexandria.
The program includes discussions about the project and the peace-promoting activities organized in Alexandria. In addition, presentations entitled "Peace and Religions" and "Gandhi, the Man of Peace" will be held, followed by poetry readings and musical performances. The day’s activities will be concluded with a march for peace, from the BA until the Unknown Soldier.
An exhibition will accompany the event, displaying the artistic works of children, prepared during the weekly workshops of the Peace Education among Youth project, that express their views and opinions about peace.
The event begins at 4:30 pm in the West Hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center.
