Second Cycle of the UNESCO/Suzanne Mubarak/Japan-Egypt Friendship Research Fellowships begins

Alexandria, 17 October 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is preparing to host the second cycle (June 2006 - May 2007) of the UNESCO/Suzanne Mubarak/Japan-Egypt Friendship Research Fellowships for the Empowerment of Women in Peace and Gender Studies. The deadline for application is December 2005, selection of candidates by the UNESCO Selection Committee will take place in March 2006, and the research commences in June 2006.

The program targets women from developing countries, undertaking innovative and imaginative graduate and postgraduate research with a view to empowering the role of women in peace and gender studies.
The BA was chosen to manage this program as the host institution, under the supervision of UNESCO. The duration of research performed at the BA ranges from a minimum of three months to a maximum of six months. The BA will provide its resources for researchers around the world to conduct research (in English, Arabic and French) on: - Gender Issues;
- The Role of Women in Society;
- Women and Cultural Heritage;
- Women and the Culture of Peace and Development; and
- The Role of Women during Armed Conflict.
