Renewing the US-Egypt Science and Technology Cooperative Agreement

Alexandria, 29 November 2005—The signing of the renewal of the US-Egypt Science and Technology Cooperative Agreement will take place today, 29 November 2005, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA).
Paula J. Dobriansky, Under-Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs; and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, are the two parties signing the agreement, which states that the US would provide not less than US$1.5 million annually to a fund for cooperative science and technology projects over the course of the agreement"s 10-year validity. This agreement aims to promote a better future for the World"s developing countries and the US through science and technology cooperation.
The Under-Secretary"s visit coincides with the annual meeting of the Academy of Science for the Developing World (TWAS), which will take place at the Bibliotheca on 30 November 2005. Ms. Dobriansky will address the conference. She will also meet the Arab Network of Women members in Science and Technology (ANWST).
