Music, Cinema, and Plastic Arts in January at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA)

Alexandria, 2 January 2006- As part of the BA Arts Center monthly program, the center will organize, as of 3rd of January, a music show by the BA Arts School Concert including piano, singing, and children’s choir. The center will also conduct a choral by the Arab Music Troupe on Thursday, 5 January 2006. The BA Arts Center in cooperation with Goethe Institute will present a concert by the German Brass Band on Friday, 20 January 2006. On Saturday, 28 January 2006, the BA Chamber Orchestra in cooperation with Walter Grimmer, the Swiss Cellist will conduct a Chamber Music Concert at Alexandria Atelier.

The program will feature an exhibition by the Artist Samir Rafea, first time in Alexandria. It is worth mentioning that Artist Samir Rafea adopted a contemporary Egyptian art interacting with modern art trends ranging from expressionism to symbolism and surrealism. Samir Rafea expresses a mixture of the Egyptian reality, its interaction with myths, and folkloric arts in a contemporary structure.

January program also includes a cinema week, entitled American Cinema- Stanley Kubrick: A Director From USA. The Center will present some of Kubrick’s films: Lolita, 1962 on Sunday, 22 January 2006; Dr. Strangelove, 1964 on Monday, 23 January 2006; 2001:A Space Odyssey, 1968 on Tuesday, 24 January, 2006; A Clockwork Orange, 1971 on Wednesday, 25 January 2006; Barry Lyndon, 1975 on Thursday, 26 January 2006; The Shinning, 1980 on Friday, 27 January 2006; Full Metal Jacket, 1987 on Saturday, 28 January 2006; and Eyes Wide Shut, 1999 on Sunday, 29 January 2006.

During the cinema week, the center will hold an exhibition featuring Stanley Kubrick photos and documentaries.
