Alexandria 17 January 2006—H.E. Mrs. Jutta Limbach will be visiting the BA on Thursday 19 January 2006. Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Jutta Limbach President of the Goethe-Institut Dr. Jutta Limbach was born on March 27, 1934 in Berlin. She is married and has three children. She was the first woman to be elected President of the German Constitutional Court. Dr. Limbach studied law in Berlin and Freiburg. She passed the first state law examination in 1958 and the second in 1962. From 1963 to 1966 Dr. Limbach worked as a research assistant at the law school of the Free University of Berlin, where she earned her doctorate with a dissertation on legal sociology. From 1966 to 1969, she was a fellow at the German National Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) and became a full professor (Habilitation) in 1971. In the same year she was appointed Professor of Law at the Free University of Berlin, where she taught civil and commercial law, and legal sociology until 1989. During this period, she also served on an advisory committee of the Federal Ministry for Women, Youth and Health. In 1989, Dr. Limbach became Senator for Justice of the City and State of Berlin. In March 1994 she was elected Justice and Vice-President of the German Constitutional Court. In September 1994 she became President of the Court, a position which she held until April 10, 2002. On January 17, 2002, Dr. Limbach was elected President of the Goethe-Institut in Munich. Her principal publications include:

Das Bundesverfassungsgericht, 2001 (on Germany"s Constitutional Court).
Her visit program will begin at 17:30 hours when she arrives at the BA and will include;

—A reception (at the VIP lounge)and a meeting with the department heads of the BA

—A guided tour of the Library from 18:00 to 19:00 hours.

—A reception at the Geothe-Institut (by invitation only)
