Dr. Moustafa Elfeki
Dr. Moustafa Elfeki is the Former Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2017-2022).
He has been an active player in the Egyptian political scene for the past 40 years; for one, he was the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian People’s Assembly for 10 years.
Academically, he taught Political Science at the American University in Cairo (AUC) for over a decade, and was the Founding President of the British University in Egypt (BUE).
Dr. Elfeki was Ambassador of Egypt to Austria and several other countries, and Permanent Representative of Egypt to the League of Arab States and Governor of Egypt at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
On the national front, Dr. Elfeki served as Secretary of Information and Follow-up to the President of Egypt, and the Director of the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Elfeki was honored by the Egyptian government with several medals, including the Order of the Nile in Social Science (2010), the State Merit Prize in Social Science (2003), and the State Incentive Prize in Political Science (1993), as well as several international honors.
He has authored more than 40 books in politics and culture, and is one of the most prominent Egyptian article writers. For the last 50 years, Dr. Elfeki has published articles in many leading Egyptian and Arabic journals and magazines. Dr. Elfeki has been a permanent guest in a number of political and talk shows during the last few decades.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin
Ismail Serageldin, the Founding Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), the new Library of Alexandria, inaugurated in 2002, is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Library of Alexandria. He serves as Chair and Member of a number of advisory committees for academic, research, scientific and international institutions, including as Patron of the International Science Council (ISC), co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC), and serves on the Board of the Science and Technology for Society (STS) Forum in Japan, and is a member of the Science Advisory Council (SAC) of the Islamic Development Bank and the SAC of the World Food Prize, and the SAC of the African Open Science Platform (AOSP), and also serves on the Steering Committee of the Innovation for a Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) in Tokyo.
Dr. Serageldin has held many international positions including as Vice President of the World Bank (1993–2000), and he was distinguished professor at Wageningen University and at the College de France.
He has received many awards including: The Order of the Rising Sun awarded by the Emperor of Japan (2008); Knight of the French Legion of Honor awarded by the President of France (2008); The Public Welfare Medal, by the US National Academy of Sciences, Washington DC (2011); and is a Commander of the Order of Arts & Letters of France (2011); and holds the Nizami Ganjavi Gold Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as many other awards.
He has published over 100 books and monographs and over 500 papers on a variety of topics. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Cairo University and Master’s degree and a PhD from Harvard University and has received over 35 honorary doctorates.
