Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt is one of the programs orchestrated by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and co-funded by the European Union. The program mainly aims to reinforce grounds for the development of the cultural sector in Egypt, which includes an increased access to culture and the promotion and protection of the diversity of cultural expressions according to the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions, of which both Egypt and the European Union are parties, with a particular focus on contemporary arts and the creative sector.
To achieve these goals, the program has integrated a number of activities designed to be implemented over a period of 24 months—the duration allotted to the project. The activities are based on three main themes that form the pillars of the program and are also grouped under the following categories: cultural debates, mapping cultural industries all over Egypt, the Arts in the Classroom initiative for young students, the North and South program, and the creation of cultural outlets to foster the development of artistic professions.
Furthermore, an advisory committee has been created, which includes representatives from six of the Egyptian ministries to ensure their engagement and participation in the program.
